GCO ATLANTA CELEBRATES SANG MARIE 2011
Hundreds of Gambians converged in the chocolate city of Atlanta and home of legendary Civil Rights
leader Martin Luther King. During the weekend of August 19th to celebrate the feast of the assumption
of the blessed Virgin Mary commonly known as Sang Marie. The annual gathering which is now an annual
pilgrimage brings together Gambians and non Gambians from all over the world every year. For Gambian
Catholics this feast is the biggest feast in the church calendar given that it is the feast of the
Patron Saint of the Catholic Diocese of Banjul.
